Details
A visually stunning animated film brings the life and mystery of Vincent van Gogh to the big screen.
Loving Vincent (2017, 94 min) is the world's first fully painted animated feature film.
Armand, the son of a postman, is sent to deliver a posthumous letter to Vincent van Gogh's brother. His task turns into an investigation as he sets out to discover the truth behind Van Gogh's suicide.
First conceived as a seven-minute short film in 2008, Loving Vincent was realised by Dorota Kobiela, a painter herself, after studying the techniques and the artist's story through his letters. Each of the film's 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, created using the same techniques as Van Gogh by a team of 125 artists from around the globe.
The film won Best Animated Feature Film at the 30th European Film Awards in Berlin and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 90th Academy Awards.
